Pregnancy and Disability
Not all disabilities are visible. People who have a disability report biased care during pregnancy and a lack of understanding among providers of their birth intentions or needs for supportive services. The current maternal health services landscape is ableist by design. We want to change that.
Project 1: Maternal and infant health outcomes among people with disabilities.
We are conducting an in-depth study of risk factors associated with poor maternal and infant health outcomes in a Medicaid population with disabilities in Texas to better understand the disparities they face with respect to their racial and ethnic minority status, area-level socioeconomic conditions, and quality of healthcare.
